Our Faith
Heritage and Affiliation
Our faith is in the holy Triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - and His fully-truthful Word, the Bible. We are evangelical - we believe in the historic Christian faith as expressed by the early church and recovered in the Reformation - and we are Baptist - we believe baptism is a symbol of new life and forgiveness of sin for those who have put their faith in Christ. We are part of the Southern Baptist Convention, a collective of self-governing churches that believe and practice in line with The Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and work together to fund seminaries, mission boards, and similar organizations.
We preach expositionally, verse by verse through books of the Bible, and teach exegetically, diving deep into the meaning of biblical passages, in Sunday School and on Wednesday nights. We love God, each other, and our neighbors - and we'd be glad to welcome you and your family to worship, learn, and grow with us!
The Gospel
The core message of the Bible is the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ. Here is an explanation of this life-changing message in five concise points.
Our World: God created the world and everything in it for his glory. People were created by God as the only creatures made in his image and his representatives to rule over, respect, and cherish all of creation. (Genesis 1:26-31)
Our Nature: People were created as good, but when the first humans, Adam and Eve, disobeyed God’s commands, sin entered the world. With sin entered pain, conflict, sickness, and death. Sin corrupted humanity so greatly that every person is born with a sinful nature and falls short of God’s perfect goodness. (Genesis 3:1-21, Romans 8:19-23)
Our Problem: Sin. Since God is holy (separated from sin) and perfectly good, he cannot simply ignore sin or sweep it under the rug. God cannot be fully good if he does not deal with evil. By our own merit, our sin makes us God’s enemies and deserving of eternal punishment. (Leviticus 11:44, Isaiah 57:15, Hebrews 12:14, Romans 3:23)
Our Savior: God could have simply allowed everyone to pay the price for their sins, but God loves us so much that he sent a Savior to take our punishment and purchase our freedom. Jesus, God the Son, came to earth to live as fully human while still being fully divine. He was tempted to sin just as we are, but never gave in. He died an agonizing death on the cross to pay the price for our sins. (John 3:16-18, Hebrews 4:14-16, Hebrews 7:23-28, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
Our End: Jesus’ story did not end at the grave. He resurrected on the third day, victorious over sin, death, and Satan. Those who ask God’s forgiveness, turn away from their sins, and put their faith in Jesus will be brought into God’s family spend eternity worshipping God with all his people. Those who do not repent and trust in Christ will spend eternity in torment, irredeemably separated from God. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Revelation 1:18, Romans 6:5-6, Revelation 22:12-17)
